[Theory-center] TPP Lecture on Okt. 28: Jan-Willem van Holten on "BRST"

Dear friends and colleagues, As part of our FOM program Theoretical Particle in the era of the LHC, we have occasional lecture days on Theory Meeting days. These involve advanced topics relevant to the theme of the proposal. On such a lecture day we have 1 lecture (each 2 times 45min) in the morning, and one in the later afternoon. The second set of TPP lectures will be given by Prof. Jan-Willem van Holten Title: Ghosts and gauges, the mathematical machinery behind BRST quantization Abstract: In classical and quantum dynamics there exists a fundamental connection between symmetries and constraints. The dynamical symmetries and constraints can be implemented by extending the classical phase space or the quantum state space with ghost degrees of freedom. The procedure to construct these extensions will be described and it will be shown how to recover the dynamics of the physical system. Place: The lectures will be held in at Nikhef. Time: 10.45 - 12.30 in H239 14.45 - 16.30 in H331 (each period with 15 min break). Dear colleagues, Registration for the Amsterdam Particle Physics Symposium -Theory and Experiment in the LHC Era- (APPS 2011) is now open through URL: http://www.nikhef.nl/apps/ Dates: Wednesday November 30 - Friday December 2 Location: Felix Meritis, Amsterdam There is no fee for this symposium, and we can offer participants, besides an exciting physics program, a complementary reception and conference dinner, sponsored by FOM, NIKHEF and NWO. On the website suggestions for accommodation can be found, with special APPS NIKHEF prices. We urge you to arrange accommodation at your earliest convenience, as the special prices are valid only until 4 weeks before the conference. After that the hotel will charge the normal day price.
