And an experimentally very well tested part at that. It is nonetheless important to keep testing this symmetry, exactly because we rely so heavily on it in our description of nature. In this student-talk I will try to shine some light on different aspects of Lorentz symmetry: some of its consequences, its connection to CPT, what happens if we break it and how can we test it? - Talk 16.30-17.00, H320 Ioannis Malamos (RU Nijmegen) "Reduction of one and two-loop Amplitudes at the Integrand level" We define the order of a Feynman integral by the number of its denominators (propagators). We then discuss reduction of Feynman integrals at the integrand level at one and two-loop cases. At one-loop level such reductions are known and we just present them with a different approach. At the two-loop level this subject is under investigation since a base for Feynman integrals is not known in advance. Best wishes, Eric Agenda December 16 Time: 10.00 - 17.00 Time: 15.00 - 16.00 Student meeting/discussion Alessandro Sfondrini: "The mathematics of quantum mechanics" The topic of this seminar is as classical as possible (for a quantum one, of course): some notions about QM that everyone probably knows from their bachelor's studies... stuff coming directly from the 1930s. The focus (which may be be new to someone) is the attempt to dig deeper in the mathematical structure of QM, stressing some subtleties. First, I will remind you how concepts such as self-adjoint and unitary operators naturally arise in the theory, and why it is necessary to consider unbounded operators to describe almost any physical system. Dear all, there will be a videoconference on Wednesday the 14th of December at 11:00 in room N328 about the energy spectrum of atmospheric muon neutrinos. The discussion will be focused on the following topics (from Maurizio's e-mail): This measurement is mandatory for following analyses, as HE diffuse flux and limit on the neutrino velocity. This first and very informal contact should be addressed to: - update (if necessary) the status of energy estimators; - define which estimator is used (or planned to be used) by different groups; - define the data set to be analyzed; - define a common subsample of unblinded data taking periods; - define the MC data sample; - define the minimum set of comparisons between data and MC for the different analyses; - … - decide the next rencontre and (if possible) analysis timeline. Dear all, Does someone want to try to use the grid for Antares/KM3NeT work? We have a Virtual Organisation (of which I am the 'Manager'*) which is intended for this. I got the email below about our inactivity. If someone is interested at giving this a go, then we should make an effort (I can try to help, but don't know much more than what is available on the web). I think there is potentially a lot of computing power that we could use in this way, so it's worth the effort. On the other hand: I'm not going to do it myself just to keep the people at egi happy. So please: If you're interested to try to use the grid: let me know (and I'll tell them that we expect a surge of activity soon). /data/antares is full

Hi everyone, I hope things are going well for everyone back in Amsterdam! I have a few KM3NeT jobs running at Nikhef and noticed that since a few days the /data/antares network drive is at its maximum capacity. Even after deleting some of my files to make room for new ones, the drive keeps filling up. Could everyone please check if all files on that drive are really necessary (and if not remove them or move them to some other drive)? And, if you currently have batch jobs running on stoomboot, make sure they write their output to a different drive. (Or make sure that there is enough space on /data/antares when you run them).
