Time: 15.00 - 16.00 Student meeting/discussion Alessandro Sfondrini: "The mathematics of quantum mechanics"

The topic of this seminar is as classical as possible (for a quantum one, of course): some notions about QM that everyone probably knows from their bachelor's studies... stuff coming directly from the 1930s. The focus (which may be be new to someone) is the attempt to dig deeper in the mathematical structure of QM, stressing some subtleties. First, I will remind you how concepts such as self-adjoint and unitary operators naturally arise in the theory, and why it is necessary to consider unbounded operators to describe almost any physical system. Then I will describe by simple examples some of the typical subtleties that arise from this scenario, related in particular to the choice of domain.
