Dear all,
herewith I forward an e-mail from the CAN (Committee for Astroparticle Physics in the Netherlands) as it is unclear if the associated mailing-list is actually known/used by people. In case you are not signed up for the mailing-list, please do sign up (easy to do on the astroparticle webpage http://astroparticlephysics.nl in the menu item 'mailing list').
Other (unrelated) 'news': The yearly Nikhef open day is again coming up, please mark your calendar for the 5th of October, we can discuss Tuesday how to distribute the 'shifts' there.
cheers, Dorothea

Dear friends of astroparticle physics in the Netherlands,
we would like to share with you some news from the Committee of Astroparticle Physics in the Netherlands (CAN).
- The CAN is in discussions with NWO-EW about a new funding program for astroparticle physics. Related to this, NWO will organize a one day symposium on astroparticle physics in Den Haag on September 13th, 2013. The Dutch astroparticle physics community is kindly invited to this meeting. The official invitation letter will be distributed next week. Please mark your calendars and join the meeting.
- The CAN is organizing a focus session on astroparticle physics during the next FOM Veldhoven meeting on January 21st and 22nd, 2014. We plan to have the following speakers and topics: * Neutrino Astronomy, Francis Halzen, Madison * Gamma Ray Astronomy, Sera Markoff, Amsterdam * Cosmic Rays, Sijbrand de Jong, Nijmegen * Gravitational Waves, Jo van den Brand, Amsterdam Please join our focus session during the Veldhoven meeting.
- The 18th Symposium on Astroparticle Physics in the Netherlands will be held on October 23rd, 2013 in Leiden. The Dutch astroparticle physics community is kindly invited to attend this meeting. A list of speakers and topics will be announced soon.
- The CAN is (still) working on a strategic plan to coordinate the Dutch activities in this field. An update on the plan will be given during the above mentioned 18th APP symposium. At this occasion, the CAN is also asking for feedback from the community.
Please forward this email to all colleagues in your respective institute, which are interested in astroparticle physics. People can sign up to this email distribution list via the CAN web page http://www.astroparticlephysics.nl/mailing.php
With best regards, Jörg Hörandel (chairman of the CAN)
