H331 at 14:00 Speaker: Philipp Frings Title: CP Violation in Charm Decays - A Signal of New Physics? Abstract: The detection of the Higgs boson is the last of a series of successes of the Standard Model. Nevertheless, there are reasons that suggest that the SM is incomplete. Search for vioaltion of the charge-parity (CP) symmetry is a good way to find new physics which could complement the SM. Measurements of the observable Delta A_CP = A_CP(D^0->K^+K^-)-A_CP(D^0 -> pi^+pi^-), which measures CP violation, deviate significantly from the Standard Model expectation and seem to be an indication that some new physics is in play. In this talk, we will use flavor SU(3) breaking to show that the measurement could also be accomodated in the Standard Model and is not necessarily a sign of new physics.

Dear Bfys friends, Since all CP asymmetries in the Standard Model arise via the Yukawa couplings of the Higgs field to the fermions the following discussion is in my opinion just as relevant for LHCb people as for Atlas people. In some of the discussions the past weeks we noticed that some questions on theoretical implications are unknown to the experimentalists while they are mostly 'trivial' for the members of the theory group. Same holds for the experimental facts, interpretations and issues for theorists. If we can collect the most important questions from each community the 'other' group should be able to explain them within 2 x 30-45 minute presentation with discussion or so.
