Title: New Strategy to Extract the CP-violating Phase phi_s from Bs -> K-K+
Abstract:
The Bd -> pi-pi+, Bs -> K-K+ system allows the extraction of the angle gamma of the unitarity
triangle and the Bs—Bs-bar mixing phase phi_s. The LHCb collaboration presented first results with a precision at the 7 degree level. Unless there is theoretical progress, it is challenging to reduce this uncertainty below O(5 deg) due to U-spin breaking corrections. A new strategy for the optimal determination of phi_s is proposed. New elements are the semileptonic decays Bd -> pi-l+nu and Bs -> K-l+nu. Moreover, the U-spin symmetry is only applied to theoretically favourable quantities. Corrections from U-spin breaking are determined. A theoretical precision of up to 0.5 degree is possible in the era of Belle II and the LHCb upgrade. As Bs->K-K+ is dominated by penguin topologies, comparison with the SM expectation and alternative determinations such as from Bs -> J/psi phi may reveal new sources of CP violation.
