Hi Rob,
that's essentially what I did until they managed to come up with something that works most of the time on Debian stable. I did start a bit more than half a year early, though, because I knew this kind of thing takes its time...
For the time being, I fear we need to either use our ellbows a bit until Vidyo works for us, or we should stop paying for it altogether (not a realistic option, since we do not have too much control in the decision making process).
Cheers,
Manuel

Hi Manuel,
FYI I am already attempting to:
"make the life of the support team hell" ;)
Starting with a very clear request to CERN vidyo support to see what CERN expects to happen at external institutes...
Thanks,

Dear all,
I apologise for my connectivity issues in skype in the meeting today, please feel free to drop any comments you may have into my inbox (and I guess there will be plenty - I find this time-dependent stuff is always rather difficult to present in a short time, and I'd guess you could tell).
For the future, since CERN (and I guess also Nikhef) is paying to have Vidyo just work, could we perhaps switch to the officially supported software, please? (And if it does not work, can we make the life of the support team hell? That's what they're paid for. We should not need to waste our time with these things, and in my experience, Vidyo actually works reasonably well.) My experience on skype today was a rather difficult one, with sound dropouts throughout the session, microphones suddenly ceasing to function and a couple of random disconnects... In the end, I got maybe half of the meeting, and the comments I would have liked to hear in person I could not hear at all because skype did not allow me to reconnect...
Cheers, and I apologise again for the connectivity problems,
Manuel

Dear all,
It seems that at CERN EVO cannot be used anymore. I try to set up Vidyo, although I probably will not manage to get the Polycom incorporated for echo suppression.

Hi Tjeerd,
I hate to bring this up, but...
When I start koala, I get a big fat message that I am no longer allowed to connect, since none of my former communities are part of the new SeeVogh network. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I imagine I'm not the only one how will run into trouble with the old EVO setup...
Could we consider to switch to Vidyo, please? (Especially since I strongly suspect that CERN has dismantled the CERN-EVO phone bridge which used to be a convenient back up solution when all else failed, and I can not dial abroad from CERN, so "remote" phone bridges are disqualified...)
I have to say I do not care too much if video/desktop sharing/slide broadcasting works, but sound worked quite well for me in Vidyo, and we send the PDFs around in any case, so that at least should be fine...
Cheers,
Manuel

The presentations will be available (protected under lhcb, etc.) on the Nikhef agenda page and comments can be directly mailed to the speakers.
Best regards, Tjeerd
*)Today Vidyo could not provide the same service as EVO in our meeting room at Nikhef, therefore I decided to book this meeting again on EVO. Universe is the community, as LHCb has been removed.
As a test we can open a room in Vidyo on Friday at 12:00.
