Bfys Meeting Friday 23 November at 9:30 in N328 and continued at 13:30 in H331
In N328 9:30 Introduction and discussion on LHCB-PAPER-2012-040 by Wouter "Amplitude analysis and the branching fraction measurement of Bbar0s to JpsiK+K-" (1h) Please, read this paper in advance. 10:30 Introduction LHCB-PAPER-2012-045 by Niels (30') "Analysis of the resonant components in Bbar0 -> J/psi pi+pi-" In H331 13:30 Rehearsals by Serena and Jeroen for the "Discrete" conference is Lisbon. 13:30 "Very rare decays" by Serena Rare lepton decays of the B(s), D and K mesons are sensitive probes of New Physics. In particular, the search for the decays B(s) -> mu+mu- provides information on the presence of new (pseudo-)scalar particles. LHCb is well suited for these analyses due to its large acceptance and trigger efficiency, as well as its excellent invariant mass resolution and lepton identification capabilities. Results on these searches using data collected by LHCb in 2011 and 2012 are presented. 14:10 "Measurement of the CP violating phase in Bs mixing" by Jeroen. The determination of the CP-violating phase phi_s in B_s -> J/psi phi decays is one of the key goals of the LHCb experiment. Its value is predicted to be very small in the Standard Model but can be significantly enhanced in many models of new physics. We present the world's best measurement of phi_s and the first observation of a non-zero Delta Gamma_s based upon 1.0 fb−1 of data collected at LHCb during 2011. phi_s can also be measured using the predominantly CP-odd B_s -> J/psi pi pi decay mode. We present this measurement and the combination of phi_s from both J/psi phi and J/psi pi pi decay modes. Additionally we present first results on other B_s decay modes, potentially interesting for complementary measurements of phi_s, such as B_s -> phi phi and B_s → J/psi K∗0 decays.
Best regards, Tjeerd
