Title: CP Violation in Charm Decays - A Signal of New Physics?
Abstract:
The detection of the Higgs boson is the last of a series of successes of the Standard Model. Nevertheless, there are reasons that suggest that the SM is incomplete. Search for vioaltion of the charge-parity (CP) symmetry is a good way to find new physics which could complement the SM. Measurements of the observable Delta A_CP = A_CP(D^0->K^+K^-)-A_CP(D^0 -> pi^+pi^-), which measures CP violation, deviate significantly from the Standard Model expectation and seem to be an indication that some new physics is in play. In this talk, we will use flavor SU(3) breaking to show that the measurement could also be accomodated in the Standard Model and is not necessarily a sign of new physics.
