Affected software and risk
==========================
Package : globus-url-copy, uberftp, globus-gridftp-server
CVE ID : N/A
Applications and sites should be aware that requesting data-channel encryption (i.e. PROT E) when using gridftp is no guarantee that this will actually be enabled.
This affects (at least) globus-url-copy and uberftp. Third-party transfers using a globus-gridftp-server are also affected, which includes DPM.
This is considered 'Low' risk to the EGI infrastructure as a whole, but applications should be aware not to rely on data-channel encryption.
Actions required/recommended
============================
Anyone relying on encrypted transfers using gridftp should not rely on gridftp's data-channel encryption but instead encrypt data before transmission.
If anyone becomes aware of any situation where this vulnerability has a significant impact on the EGI infrastructure or any usage in EGI then please inform EGI SVG.
More information
================
Not all gridftp servers implement data-channel authentication (DCAU).
In case DCAU is not available, a number of gridftp tools also do not support data-channel encryption (PROT E).
These tools then silently fail-over to data protection level clear (PROT C).
Currently, dCache does not support DCAU, hence clients to dCache typically cannot use data-channel encryption.
For globus-url-copy, PROT E is requested using the -dcpriv commandline flag, for uberftp it is requested using the "prot E" command.
In case a third-party transfer is done from a globus-gridftp-server, the same silent failover occurs.
See [R 1] for the originally reported issue.
Note that the Globus Toolkit is no longer maintained by the Globus team, except for security patches, see [R 2]
However the Grid Community Forum [R 3] has produced an (open source) fork of the Globus toolkit, called the Grid Community Toolkit (GCT).
The GCT packages will also replace the current globus-toolkit packages in EPEL and Debian but will be binary compatible.
The GCT may release an updated version of the globus-url-copy and globus-gridftp-server to partially address this issue, but due to the variety of tools involved, a full fix is not possible.

Context
=======
This advisory has been prepared as part of the effort to fulfil EGI SVG's purpose
"To minimize the risk to the EGI infrastructure arising from software vulnerabilities"
The risk is that assessed by the group, according to the EGI SVG issue handling procedure [R 3] in the context of how the software is used in the EGI infrastructure. It is the opinion of the group, we do not guarantee it to be correct. The risk may also be higher or lower in other deployments depending on how the software is used.
Others may re-use this information provided they:-
1) Respect the provided TLP classification

Hello,
I would like to announce the DPM workshop 2018, which will
take place on the 31st of May and 1st of June 2018 at CESNET (Prague),
with the kind support of the Czech DPM community.
https://indico.cern.ch/event/699602/
* As of now 19th of March, the registration is open until the 6th of May 2018.*
You are invited to participate to the workshop and to the discussions,
where we cover news and updates on the status of DPM:
releases, distributions, development directions, involvement of
the DPM collaboration, features, support for old and new components,
performance evaluations and experiences in general.
The workshop will cover news and updates on experiences and
best practices, user reports, administration tools,
federations, site caching, data access and community talks.
In this edition, particular focus will be dedicated to preparing
sites to the upgrades, in view of the foreseen end of support for
the older components.
We are working on the agenda and will soon populate it in Indico.
Attendance to the workshop will require a fee of 25 euros to be paid to the organizers.
Please get in touch if you would like to contribute.
If you have ideas or suggestions for specific topics and contributions,
then please let us know, we are very interested in your opinions.
We hope to see you all there.
Cheers
Fabrizio Furano, on behalf of the DPM team

1) NGIs argus servers configuration
The ARGUS version that fixes the PAP permissions has been released in UMD 4.6: http://repository.egi.eu/2017/12/18/release-umd-4-6-0/
It is important updating to this version.
Moreover, as reported by EGI-CSIRT during the February OMB, several NGI ARGUS servers are not properly configured and they are not passing the nagios tests (eu.egi.Argus-DNs probe):
https://argo-mon.egi.eu/nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi?servicegroup=SERVICE_ngi.…
Tickets have been opened against the affected sites.
How the probe works:
- Central Argus server suspend 1 fake DN each day
- Argo looks for this DN in NGI Arguses
Requirements for passing the test:
- NGI Argus must be configured to fetch DNs
- Argo must be able to connect to NGI Argus
- Argo DN must be authorized to query DNs
Information about the nagios errors and possible solutions: https://wiki.egi.eu/wiki/EGI_CSIRT:Central_emergency_suspension#NGI_Argus_M…
Information on global banning set-up: https://wiki.nikhef.nl/grid/Argus_Global_Banning_Setup_Overview#NGI_Argus
2) WMS servers decommission and related nagios probe
In order to follow-up the WMS servers decommission, it has been deployed a specific nagios probes detecting the WMS servers still in production, eu.egi.sec.WMS:
https://wiki.egi.eu/wiki/MW_SAM_tests#General_tests
Starting from March, the probe is returning a CRITICAL status for the detected WMS instances, and the ROD teams are opening a ticket to the sites that haven't finished the decommission process yet:
please report in the ticket the timeline for dismissing your WMS servers, in according to https://wiki.egi.eu/wiki/PROC12 .
Detected servers: https://argo-mon.egi.eu/nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi?servicegroup=SERVICE_WMS&…
3) UMD3 shutdown
The UMD3 distribution is DEPRECATED. Sites are kindly asked to switch from UMD3/SL6 to UMD4/SL6 repositories: this can be easily done upgrading to the UMD4/SL6 version of the umd-release, and updating the list of the packages.
The proposed deadline to shutdown the UMD3 repository is April 30th; after that, the UMD3 repository will be no longer available.
To perform the repository upgrade, please refer to http://repository.egi.eu/category/umd_releases/distribution/umd-4/
For each single product, please carefully check the official product-specific documentation and the release notes provided by the Technology Provider. Especially, please take care that during the switch you can jump to new major versions; hence it is always very important to CAREFULLY READ UPGRADE GUIDELINES AND RELEASE NOTES of the products you are updating.
For any issue with the switch, please opena a GGUS ticket to the EGI Software Provisioning Support Unit.
4) UMD 4.6.1
UMD 4.6.1 is a fix release, containing the following product updates, both for CentOS7 and SL6. Please find details at http://repository.egi.eu/category/umd_releases/distribution/umd-4/ and the updated product overview at https://wiki.egi.eu/wiki/UMD_products
APEL-SSM 2.2.0 - Added a check that certificates have not expired before starting SSM. SSL errors now propagated out properly and saved for received messages. Trimmed down the number of log messages generated for receivers. Added python-devel build requirement for non fedora-packager OSs (CentOS)
DPM 1.9.2 - This update includes releases 1.9.2 and lcgdm 0.19.0. It contains a fix for dpm-listspaces wrongly reporting 0 free space for pools See http://lcgdm.web.cern.ch/dpm-192-release
XRootD 4.7.1 - various bug fixes https://github.com/xrootd/xrootd/blob/v4.7.1/docs/ReleaseNotes.txt
CVMFS server 2.4.4 - fix registration of chunk hashes without bulk hash and non-SHA1 hash algorithm: fix on geoapi. See http://cvmfs.readthedocs.io/en/2.4/cpt-releasenotes.html
CVMFS 2.4.4 - react to a change of DNS server on macOS. See http://cvmfs.readthedocs.io/en/2.4/cpt-releasenotes.html
APEL 1.6.1 - various fixes and improvements https://github.com/apel/apel/releases/tag/1.6.1-1
