Hi Alessandro,
there no issue if someone cannot pay by credit card, if he or she has no card. Choosing the online system was on purpose, just to avoid extra workload due to the individual invoices and all those emails, which you will for sure get if we offer bank transfer or just even mention this option on the website.

From the European conference I organized two years ago all participants were able to use credit card or master/visa to pay, we had no problems with Italian, french or polish people. Those who need a more detailed confirmation for their administration can use the option of giving more information for the billing address which is already on the website.

In case you get requests from your students, you can use the information I gave you before as a sort template. The information about the bank accounts are included in the invoice they will get after providing the correct information.

Best
Sylvia

Ciao Sylvia

I really do not discuss the difficulty to implement the bank transfer or its cost. Surely you know better than everyone of us!

the point is that you/we cannot force people to do what they cannot do.  Paying via bank transfer is not easier than paying via card, actually is the other way around so if someone decide to pay via bank transfer is because it is really needed and not because they are lazy.

Many nations, I take Italy as example (but Poland and France are the same), need a bank transfer with invoice addressed to the corresponding national institute of physics. Those are internal rules that cannot be avoided

While I agree that paying cash is bad and must be avoided (in fact we do not support it) I do not think is a really good idea to do not offer the possibility of back transfer.

Even if this option is not in the website (and this is a bad idea in my opinion) we need a standard form with all the required info and the final bank address.
We will get tent of requests and we cannot imagine that everyone of us send tenth of mails to individual persons like the one you sent me otherwise surely we will make some mistake at certain point.

Ciao
Alessandro

Hi Alessandro,
paying via bank account should be an exception, we will not put this option on the website! This is to force people to use the online system!
The same for the reduced fee. The link to this is only for selected participants!

The santu express login is to my understanding for people using the system more often (so their billing information will be automatically filled in), but I will check this. So via the SQM website you have three payment options: credit card, master/visa card and ideal.

Ciao Sylvia

sorry for this second mail but following your proposal and my answer, I checked in the SQM website.

I did try to pay my fee and I ended up with only credit card or ideal options. There is another option, express with “santu" but no bank option. I remember we discussed few times about the need to have a bank transfer option for all the participants.

Is it this “santu” the bank transfer option?

In that case please note that “santu” comes a bit out of the blue since there is not manual or link to follow and it asks for an account

thanks and sorry to bother,
Alessandro

sure, I could do this but the SQM school partecipants are SQM partecipants (since the school is just part of the conference) so the option of paying by bank is already there.  They can use it and go with all the other partecipants (may be with the statement “reduced fee” written down in the transfer)

right?

As a general statement consider that a non negligible amount of persons will pay via bank account. This is due to the fact that in may countries (European too) paying by bank make easier to get reimbursed by the home institution (as example in Italy and France).

Hi Alessandro,
if they don´t have a credit card, it is indeed a bit more complicated ,). Thus, please make sure that you get the following information from them:

- complete invoice adress, thus
full name (first and last name)
full adress (privat or from their institute)
- purchase ordner number or reference number (they will get it from their financial administration)
- VAT number (they will get it from their financial administration)

Than you send these invoice information to me or directly to Marcel de Boer (in cc), Marcel will make the invoice and the participants can than make over the money.

Paying cash is not possible.

Sylvia

Ciao Sylvia,

the point is that a large number of persons from poor countries do not have credit card.

If we would like to avoid bank transfers do we have other suitable methods?

Alessandro
