Title: Indirect searches for dark matter
Abstract: Unraveling the nature of dark matter is one of the most exciting tasks of current fundamental and astroparticle physics. The currently leading hypothesis for particle dark
matter - weakly interacting massive particles(WIMPs) - is probed in a multitude of ways. Among these probes are indirect searches for signals in the flux of cosmic- and gamma-rays. Recently, we identified a tentative gamma-ray line in the Galactic center observations
of the Fermi LAT, which would be an unequivocal smoking-gun signature for dark matter annihilation in the Universe. One year after discovery, the signature is still as ambiguous as it could be. I discuss recent experimental and theoretical developments and
show how the situation could be clarified until end of next year.

Title: The mystery of flavor
Abstract: I will discuss the peculiar features of the fermion mass and mixing patterns and point out crucial differences between quarks and leptons. I will explain why and how flavor symmetries
can play the key role in understanding these features. Furthermore, I will briefly mention the impact of such symmetries on flavor-violating processes in theories beyond the Standard Model in which new gauge interactions and/or additional particles are in
general present.

Title: Tools for LHC phenomenology -- the road from postdictions to predictions
Abstract:
The world's largest particle accelerator, the LHC, has been running extremely well during the last couple of years. The data recorded by the experiments is of extremely high quality, surpassing most expectations. To
get the most out of the data by comparing them to theory, predictions of evenly high quality are a must. In this talk I'll discuss the FxFx merging procedure, implemented in the aMC@NLO program, that allows for the simulation of events at unprecedented precision.
