problems with NIKHEF cluster

Hi, For some unknown reason, many of our worker nodes are unavailable. During our attempt to debug the situation we have temporarily disabled the job scheduler. So if you are running jobs directly at NIKHEF (via either qsub or by telling the RB it must go to NIKHEF) your jobs will wait for an as yet unspecified period. Sorry. We think it really sucks too. RAL SE shutting down, do you have files there?

Hi *, RAL (see attachment) is shutting down one of its SEs. I am not sure if the experiment collaborations have plans themselves to migrate data; if you have stored important data on this SE you may want to take action. JT

[Fwd: Accessing the Grid from your NIKHEF Linux desktop]

Hi *, A message from Jan Just Keijser (who joined the PDP group about a month ago if you haven't met him yet): you can now access the grid services from your "normal" desktop machines, i.e. you don't have to log into ui03. A footnote (hmm, headnote?) to the included message: the minimum requirement for running this UI-on-a-desktop is that your desktop is running Scientific Linux 3, RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 or CentOS 3.x; RedHat 7.3 systems are NOT supported. This means that you can't run it from 'login.nikhef.nl': eomer:~> cat /etc/issue Red Hat Linux release 7.3 (Valhalla) Kernel \r on an \m if 'cat /etc/issue' on your machine says something like Scientific Linux CERN Release 3.0.5 (SL) then you are OK. unscheduled downtime of NIKHEF grid systems

Hi due to a problem with the main disk server, all of the grid services at NIKHEF (user interfaces, compute elements, and storage) are currently down. We are working on it and will let you know as soon as it is back up. Sorry for the inconvenience. JT
